Utterly horrible day!

Like waiting for an old birthday party balloon to deflate on it’s own, we have spent the day watching and waiting for our Coco’s swelling to go down, once the anti-biotics have kicked in.
Today was d-day, the last day that the swelling can reduce, which would mean that her injury/swelling wasn’t something more serious.
It hasn’t gone down, instead by teatime, one side of her mouth has started to swell.

Devastated isn’t the word. Have been distraught all day.

She has picked up mood wise, not half as sleepy as yesterday, following me around the house, completely oblivious to what’s going on, like she has always done, bless her.
Still eating small amounts and drinking, in between going outside, then back in. Still the odd scratch of the rug before settling down for a snooze. All the signs are pointing towards something more serious.

Then at teatime, noticed her swelling to one side of her mouth, but not in pain, just restricted by it, we made the call to phone the vets. They still tried to tempt us into seeing another vet “to have a look and check her over” even though we were advised by the previous vet (£113 for the privilege) that we should book her in so they can sedate her and take samples for testing if she showed no improvement.
A return call later, the current vet on duty agreed.

What makes matters worse, is that if it is more serious, which we suspect, then it is treatable, requiring a course of treatment after an operation. One which we cannot afford, not even close.
We will then be given the option no doubt, to have her put to sleep after some flannel no doubt, when she is not in pain and can have her life prolonged by years.
What option do we have in this scenario?
We love her to bits but are unable to afford the operation and further treatment that would help her. Hobson’s choice.

All day has been a teary one, aimlessly wondering about, praying that she would improve off the anti-biotics. Unable to focus on anything at all.
Our poor girl.
Tomorrow is the day she goes in to be put under, we have no idea on the outcome or even if we will see her bounding around the place again.

It’s a horrible, cruel world sometimes.
