Can you remember a time when…

  • You had no stress, no worries?
  • Your only concern was yourself?
  • The most important decision you had to make, was what time to go out on the lash? Or which pub you were starting out in?
  • If you ran out of brass, you simply made do until your next pay packet?
  • The majority of people around you were in the same boat as you?
  • Most people around your area were happy?
  • You actually knew most of the people in your area?
  • You had the time, brass and energy to just, get up and go somewhere?
  • You didn’t get home from work and fall asleep in the chair?

These things (and more) seem so far back in time, I cannot recall when I could answer them.

Time:
I haven’t time to piss these days. The days and weeks fly by so fast, I can’t often tell if I’m coming or going.
I don’t think my memory is failing, I think life is that fast I am drained of energy/effort and I genuinely don’t have the time to fit everything that needs doing, in.

Energy:
Where is it?
I wasn’t always this tired!
There was a time when I was out on the lash four times a week and still running around work at 100mph.
Not been on the lash for an age, yet I’ve half the energy I used to have.
Old age?
I used to get by for weeks, with just 5 or 6 hours shuteye, now if I don’t geta minimum 8 hours, I’m wilting by dinnertime.

Brass:
I have never had money to burn, but I always used to have some, or if not, would have a day or two to wait for some to come in.
Now I haven’t got a pot to piss in. Permanently skint.
New this, new that? No chance.
Second hand Sid, if at all.
It comes in, it goes out even quicker.
Food shopping’s impossible to budget (I refuse to cut back on basic food shopping) it changes from week to week.
Going out? Haven’t been out for years. I no longer want to go out.
Lockdown for me was ace, pottering around the house was my normal. I don’t understand all those people moaning about it, I loved it, levelled the playing field.

Effort:
Ever get to the stage where you feel you need a break? A holiday?
I haven’t been away for almost a decade now. Not had a break at home without hassles for ages.
Where’s my drive gone? Plans made but not acted upon?
Is it an age thing?
Is slowing down a natural way of things when you reach middle age?

Maybe that’s it!
As you age you naturally slow down, so are no longer as energetic and your mind & body cannot handle things at the same pace as you once did.
While the mind & body try to keep up, more energy is spent trying to keep up rather than actually keeping up.
